How to Install and Clean WeatherTech Floor Mats

You know that WeatherTech products help keep your car clean, but do you know the right way to clean and install your WeatherTech floor mats? Here’s some do’s and don’ts to help you get the most out of your purchase!

How to Install WeatherTech Floor Mats

  • DO remove all existing floor mats - When you install your WeatherTech floor mats, you’ll want to make sure that they are placed directly on the vehicle’s carpet. Remove any existing floor mats to ensure that you get a perfect fit.
  • DO clean debris off of carpets - Make sure that your vehicle’s carpets are clean before installing floor mats. You want to protect your vehicle’s carpets, not push the dirt deeper into the fibers! Having a clean surface will make sure that your carpets stay looking new.
  • DO use the factory retention system (if available) - Your vehicle’s floor mat retention system is designed to keep the floor mats in place. Remember to use these during the install of your WeatherTech floor mats for added safety.
  • DON’T worry about folds - when you initially take your WeatherTech floor mats out of the box, you may notice that the rear is folded. Never fear, the floor mat will flatten out after you install it!

How to Clean Car Mats

  • DON’T use harsh chemicals or silicone-based cleaners to clean your floor mats. Harsh cleansers could break down the material, limiting the life of your floor mats. The silicone can make floor mats slick, and your foot can slip while pressing on the pedals. For best results, use our FloorLiner Cleaner and Protector Kit to remove stains and keep your floor mats looking like new.
  • DO perform regular cleaning and maintenance. While WeatherTech floor mats are stain resistant, keeping your car mats clean and protected will help extend their life. This will ensure they last you for years (or until you sell your car!). Warm water, mild detergent and a soft bristle brush is enough to give your car mats a quick clean.
  • DO make sure that mats are installed correctly after any sort of detailing or service. It’s an easy thing to overlook, especially when your car already looks better than when you brought it in. However, the detailer or service person may forget to use the factory retention system, which could cause the floor mats to move around while you’re driving. To prevent this, simply check that all of your mats are in the correct position and that any retention systems have been locked in properly.

That’s it! With a little care and maintenance, it’s easy to install and clean your WeatherTech floor mats to keep them (and your vehicle!) looking like new for years to come.
