Spring Car Maintenance Checklist

As soon as daylight saving hits, it’s time to restore our cars to their former glory before all the salt and snow of winter steals their shine. Follow along for a checklist of functional and aesthetic spring car maintenance to keep your ride looking (and running) fresh and shiny into summer.

1. Oil Change

A no-brainer, but often overlooked! Regular oil changes help extend the life of your vehicle in a variety of ways. Fresh oil helps your engine reach peak performance by providing lubrication to reduce the amount of heat produced. Regular oil changes also help limit harmful emissions (we love saving the planet!) and even extend your gas mileage (we love saving money!).

2. Interior Detailing

After a long winter, the interior of your car might be showing some wear and tear. From salt stains on the floor and seats to water spots from melted ice, this is where a good cleaning and detailing kit comes in handy. Try WeatherTech’s TechCare ® FloorLiner and FloorMat Cleaner/Protector Kit to start with your floor mats where salt has collected. It quickly removes those pesky stains from your floor mats while adding a strong, durable coating. For general detailing, we recommend TechCare Interior Detailer — a real multitasking product safe for use on plastic, vinyl, painted metal, chrome and fabrics.

3. Exterior Detailing

We all love a warm, Sunday afternoon car wash. Make your weekend ritual simpler this year with the Ready to Wash Complete Set. This set features a hand-picked collection of all the accessories you’ll need for the quickest and most thorough DIY wash yet — even items you may not have thought of such as a rolling dolly, a WaterBlade for a streak-free finish, an extra bottle of shampoo and so much more! Just add water, and we’ll handle the rest.

4. Rotate Tires & Check Pressure

Tire rotation is important for your vehicle, especially in the springtime. Rotating tires helps distribute wear evenly across all four tires and maximize their tread. Rotating your tires also gives you an opportunity to check for any damage, such as nails or slow leaks. While you’re at it, be sure to check tire pressure as well and refill air as needed. Tires that aren’t inflated properly experience undue wear and can even have an impact on your gas mileage.

5. Refill Washer Fluid

Everyone loves a streak-free windshield, and after all the road salt from winter, it’s important to give your washer fluid a top off. Did you know that giving it a refill has a secondary benefit as well? Keeping the fluid at a certain level helps lubricate the pump and prevent corrosion. Top that baby up!
